events i’ve done in the past two months:

comcast welcome home

24 hour fitness welcome home

nike town seattle signing

white house visit for the usoc

p&g “thank you mom” visit

my life has been pretty crazy lately. i moved from salt lake city in april to be back home for the summer. after world championships (i placed 4th overall) i took my vacation in europe for 2 weeks. i stayed with atze and niels at their place in heerenveen but didn’t spend much time there. we went to brussels and prague this time.

prague is definitely one of the coolest cities i’ve ever been to. the taxi drive from the airport to the city scared the hell out of me… the city is very old so it’s not very well lit. the taxi driver took us from the airport down these small streets that had no lights and no cars.. i honestly thought it was going to be a hostel situation (if you know what i mean). after that experience, everything was great, although atze did get mobbed one night. we met up with my good friend from high school, kelly who is studying abroad there at the moment. we went to this 5 story club in the middle of the city that played a different kind of music on every level. the food was great, the drinks were even better and we had all around awesome time. i really needed this vacation after a stressful season.

i went to the white house with the olympic team a month ago to meet the President/Vice President and their wives. i got to shake Obama’s hand! He is a really skinny dude! He seemed very down to earth and took the time to meet each individual athlete (i got to hug michelle as well!). that experience was really cool and it was fun getting to see the whole olympic team as well as the short track team back together again.

my mom and i went to cincinnati/new york on behalf of P&G and their “thank you mom” campaign. they flew us out to cincinnati to their headquarters and had us do a couple events with their staff. we (the athletes) got to speak about how important of roles our mom’s had in each of our lives. then they flew us on one of their private jets to new york! i got to sit facing backwards and it was such a crazy feeling.. i’m glad i didn’t chuck stones on the plane haha. in new york my mom and i got to meet the ceo of the new york stock exchange and we all got a chance to stand on the balcony to ring the closing bell of the stock market.

as many of you know, i have mentioned several times that i am trying to put together a benefit concert this summer in seattle. my love for music made me want to do this. i feel like music can be a big part of how children visualize the world. it can teach kids about troubles/good times others have been in so they can learn either what to expect or how to handle situations. i would love to teach kids about the benefits of good music and how it can stimulate their minds. for me personally, music has been one of the things that gets me through the day. it’s so interesting hearing what others have to say through music, their perspectives on life. after the olympics i got a chance to meet a lot of very talented musicians, some of which i wanted to play in the concert. as some of you know, putting big events together can be very demanding of a lot of people. since i wanted to have the concert 3 months out from the day i initially started working on it, this would mean finding a big band to headline the concert. since most bands are booked 6 months to a year in advance, i have had no luck in finding one. i am still working on this along with comcast in hopes to put something together on a smaller scale. if anyone has ANY recommendations, i’d love some advice!

i recently got an internship in Seattle with King County Council-member Pete Von Reichbauer. Pete came to my family and I one day and wanted to recognize us for the accomplishments at the Olympics. (he represents south king county – federal way/auburn/kent). we became very good friends after this and he expressed his willingness to help me with my career moving forward. he is a very sincere man, and i look forward to learning about government under his position. i will be working all week, while still trying to maintain some kind of physical shape ;]

as for my future plans, i will move to berkeley, ca in august of this year and start my freshman year this fall. i am very excited, yet nervous to see what happens when i (start) using my brain again for educational purposes =)

that’s it for now!

-to all of my fans, thank you for your continuous support. i feel very honored to have so many people that care about my well being. you guys are awesome.

    Hi JR,
Congratulations and goodluck on the M.A.D. Northwest “concert” / event for the children at Seattle Children’s Hospital this coming Monday. I am sure it will inspire them and it will J.ust R.ock their world.

I am looking forward to the feature length documentary about Seattle’s hip-hop artists and how their songs have changed the lives of fans. I am willing to help in any way to get the documentary film out and more people to see the film, so M.A.D.Northwest can raise more funds for Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Just an idea: how about doing a premier showing in a local movie theater of this documentary! and include a live Q&A with you, artists, filmmaker etc after the film.

I thought that there was going to be a summer benefit concert open to the public. Keep us updated….. we will support your vision to make a difference in the world.

    Hey JR,

AWESOME that you want to put together a benefit concert. I’ve actually put together two on my own, attracting a modest 100-150 guests featuring three local bands at each event.

It’s a lot of work. It’s a lot of frustration. It’s a lot of dead ends. But it is worth it as soon as you can hear all of your hard work come into fruition.

If you need any advise or help, I’m here.

    Cheers,

    Adam

Congratulations on M.A.D. Northwest event yesterday at Seattle Children’s Hospital! And all the media exposure King 5 News last night.

I saw video of Grynch206 and Macklemore that you twitted.
    Great Talent + Giving Back = J.ust R.ocks!!!

    I wanna pre-order M.A.D Northwest DVD’s —- let the making a difference start NOW!!!

Will look forward to the M.A.D. Northwest concert that will be open to the public.

Since you say you like tons of different types of music, check out Justin Nozuka. His music is influenced by blues, rock, r&b, and artists like Ben Harper. Absolutely love him. I’m sure he’d be down to do a benefit concert. He seems like such a chill guy.

    Dear J.R.,

Rememeber us? We were at your April 13th, 2010 signing in Issaquah that ran from 5:30pm-7:00pm, although we didn’t meet you until 6:13pm to 6:15pm. It was a rather long wait, seeing how many fans of yours were in there, anxious to see you. As we were waiting in line for our turn, a very excited lady comes out and says to us, “He is just sooooooo PRECIOUS! You’ll love him!” and of coarse, she was correct. We were 100% satisfied with our visit, expecially when our arms wrapped around each other for a pose. Those precious pictures are framed, hanging on our walls in every room of the house. We were even fortunate enough to snap a couple shots of your brother. Speaking of your brother, we saw him in the mens department yesterday at 3:17pm at Bellevue Square, talking on the phone for approximately 3.3 minutes. We plan on returning to bring our pictures of him to him, asking for him to sign them. It will nearly make our Celski collection complete.

It has been an honor meeting you, and we plan on doing it again.

J.R., YOU MAKE ME SMILE :)

    Love Always,
    Laura, Ramie, and Tasha
