It’s been a wild ride, hasn’t it?! With 10 more days to go in the games, I remain confident in myself and my abilities yet remain so fortunate to have the support of my family and friends who have always been there for me. I am humbled with your presence.
Thank you to all my fans who have been following me during my career and at this olympic games. It means a lot to me to know that I have an impact on you. I really hope that you take my story into consideration next time you are feeling down about yourself. It wasn’t too long ago that I was on emotional lows and felt like giving up.
I hope that you will continue to follow your dreams, as I continue to follow mine. Strive to be what you want. This life is too short.

Hey J.R.!
I watched you in the olympics and was amazed at your (and everyone’s) talent. I can’t believe your not going to Sochi!!!! Oh well . . . . . . . Anyway I was readin your info and noticed how alike we are! (besides the fact that I can hardly stand on ice!) Your birthday is 2 days before mine, u swam (I do too even though I’m not very good), and you play 3 instruments like me (but I play bassoon, saxophone, and piano).
I had trouble with swimming this season. I had so many conflicts with meets that I could only go to 2!! I kept feeling like it was pointless to continue going to practice so I quit for the rest of the season. The winter season is over and training for summer is starting in a few months! And I’m going to rejoin!!! (I couldn’t last a summer without going to my pool!)
Thanks for being such an inspiration and hero! Your story was amazing and I’m glad you won a medal!! Too bad I won’t see you in Sochi!

awesome job at the olympics J.R. you inspired many including myself. I just wanted to know if you have any event lists for this month b/c i just found out about the meet and greet you had in seattle but had no idea when or where it was being held and it would have been great to say congrats in person. well hope to hear more of your journey and hopefully ill get to meet you before you leave washington. =) God Bless

You shouldn’t be thanking us the fans but rather we to thank you. You have inspired me and many others and I really hope you continue to do so. I would love to meet you one day. Not because you are known but because you have passion and the will power to so what you love and to stick with it. Some days I can’t even think like that. I try to be positive and do my best and hope one day to be as acccomplished as you. Thank you and amazing bronze medal win during the Olympics!!

I just wanted to say i think it was really cool how you put up that link on twitter about the cove and how they’re hurting the dolphins. when i was younger i used to LOVE dolphins so much (i sitll do just im not as obsessed) but i think it was really cool that you did that. it kinda struck me in a way…

Okay so like waaaayyy long ago I posted a comment about my schools track team and today was our first meet!! I ran the 1600 and the 800 and if I may say so my self I thought I did a really good job! Im working really hard at practice and when I feel like I cant go anymore I think of you and what you have accomplished and thats what keeps me going(: and when I dont wanna go to practice at all I think of who im letting down(myself) and force myself to go. I have a alot of things going on right now like,,, A LATINOS IN ACTION conference that I get to go to tomorrow! Its gonna be funn! Then me and my friends are dancing for the talent show and then track. Oh and i got STRAIGHT A’s on this terms report card!
And as I have said soooo many times you are my inspiration to keep on going and to follow my dreams

Dear J.R. I can imagine that you read comments that all say the same thing. But I’m going to write this anyway (even though you might never see it). First I just want to congats you on your two bronze medals. I think its pretty darn cool to say that you won two medals at your first olympics. Ok, this is going to sound kind of stupid but o well. I went ice skating awile ago for the first time. I must say that I looked like a total idiot out on the ice. I could not stop falling
but every time I fell I kept thinking about you. How you had to get back up and keep going. Ok I admit that was a cheesy story, but it gets my point across. J.R., you are such a big inspireation. Your story, your family, and your lifestyle, it’s all made such a huge impact on me. I go to a private christian school, and reading your journal and litsening to your interveiws, it really gives me hope. All my friends at school know who you are because of me. I can’t stop talking about you. I mean not in a staker way. You are such a great person to represent the pacific northwest. Well to conclude i just wanted o say that you rock my socks, that you are the coolest person that I know (of/about).
